On the 15th May 1789, Sarah Donnelly went into a shop in Gosport run by Ann Everett and Rebecca Grant, and stole 22 yards of ribbon, valued at ten shillings. She was taken to Gosport gaol, and two days later transferred to Winchester, where she was tried at the castle.
Date Tried: 20th July 1789, Hampshire Quarter Sessions, Winchester Sentence: To be transported for seven years
Sarah DONNELLY arrived aboard the `Mary Anne` on June 9th 1791. She was a native of Hampshire, England. Her crime was stealing. She was committed in Alverston for 7 years deportation to Sydney Cove.
Sarah cohabitated during the voyage with a seaman Alexander WILLIAMS & a daughter Ann WILLIAMS was born on Dec. 21st 1791.
Nothing else is known of Alexander WILLIAMS & her mother Sarah married Andrew FISHBURN a 1st Fleet Marine carpenter in 1791 under the name of Sarah WILLIAMS. They had two sons Andrew 1793 & WILLIAM HENRY FISHBURN 1795 - My Great, Great Grandfather whose daughter Ann FISHBURN married John WARICK & were my Great Grandparents. Their daughter Elizabeth Catherine WARICK married William PURNELL my Grandparents.
Andrew FISHBURN died in 1796 & Sarah then lived with George MELLON/MILLEN & had four children to him before marrying in 1810.
